CAA Águeda Arts Center by AND-RÉ

Portuguese architects AND-RÉ presented their project CAA, for which they received 1st Prize on the Competition for the Design of the new Arts Center in Agueda, Portugal.

The design of the CAA is considered as an accurate answer to the challenge of creating a solution to a specific context. This context, shaped by a global context, derives from the contemporary era in which we live, characterized by a latent and fair need for cultural affirmation.

The architecture must therefore be a base,as a receptacle, that enables the dynamic materialization of all these concepts and therefore drawn on the prospect of closer cultural relations, taking into account factors of modernization and competitiveness.

We interpret the CAA project with an objective approach to the program, their needs and constraints. This objective is reflected in the design of a system for maximizing functional, wisely managing all design variables, without forgetting the dynamics and poetics that architecture should reflect, by completing an enjoyment of quality space, inspired by the programatic theme, trying to materialize the poetry of gesture to rigorous technical and functional implementation. The architecture that formalizes this project undresses iconic artificiality, but it takes the courage, character and nobility that such equipment deserves. Someone once said “(…) Stepping mild, but step in fact. “This is the way assumed in a merger between intention and execution technique, which takes the visitor on a journey of the representative body built. The project covers the ground in three dynamic forces, which give it its essential form, spreading the program in a clear manner.

The outer material is primarily exposed concrete with almost no visible openings in the facades, creating a strong exterior architectural image and an intense inner experience, with several zenital lightning solutions.
