Topping-out ceremony for logistics centre

Yesterday, Bestseller hosted the topping-out ceremony for its new 48,000 m2 logistics centre, designed by C. F. Møller Architects. Watch a small webcam film of the construction process so far.

The centre's two tall mini-load storage bays have now been constructed along with the main structure of the centre. The centre, which is to be equipped with an app. five km conveyor belt, storage facilities, and robots, is estimated to handle app. 64.000 boxes every day and supply the clothing company's stores all over Europe.

A strong identity
Bestseller wanted to create an industrial building going beyond the typical standardised solutions for logistic facilities - a building with a strong visual identity adding an experiential quality to its surroundings.

The characterising features of the logistics centre are the two tall mini-load automated storage bays - of 6,000 m2 each - the equivalent capacity of 250,000 boxes. The storage bays take the form of solid, sculptural structures, clad with wooden slats. They will be fitted with transparent gables, allowing passing motorists to see the cranes at work.
The centre has been planned to occupy three parallel functional bands. One of these bands will contain the main entrance, office and staff facilities for 130 employees, and the truck loading bays. The second band will contain the sorting facility, and the third the fully-automated mini-load storage units.
The topping-out ceremony will take place today at 14.00 p.m. on the site, Moltrup Landevej 20, Haderslev.

Considering the environment
The centre is based on the British environmental standard BREEAM Industrial and is planned as energy class 1 according to the Danish building regulations. The site surrounding the centre, covering approximately 500,000 m2 in total, has been designed to form a green areat with oak woods, wetlands and meadows with grazing cows, which will create an environment for a rich flora and fauna.
Construction is expected to be completed in April 2012.
