Silo with wellness and room service
C. F. Møller Architects has designed a new landmark building on the former industrial harbor Østre Havn in Aalborg - a conversion of a silo into penthouse apartments with communal facilities including a restaurant, spa and wellness, room service and a manned reception.
The plan is to transform the entire Østre Havn into a new neighborhood, combining the best of the area's raw industrial identity with a new housing and shopping area - this includes maintaining the current street layout and a number of the old industrial buildings. A. Enggaard is the contractor behind this ten-year plan.
Maybe a senior resort
The new apartment complex, which could for example become a senior resort, is to rise up on the site of the former DLG plant from 1925.
The idea is to maintain part of the silo plant - namely the basic structure and the highest of the original nine silos - adding 12 new residential storeys, i.e. approx. 70 apartments.
Best international residential development
In Løgten, close to Aarhus, C.F. Møller Architects has carried out a similar conversion, turning a former grain silo into high quality housing - a project which has received several awards, including the prize for best international residential development in 2010: Residential of the Year WAN AWARD 2010.
The dwellings are designed for people who want to live right in the heart of the city, at the same time wanting home privacy and part in a community.
Wellness and room service
The apartments will have large balconies and stunning views of the fjord. The common facilities are in a class of their own with a huge roof terrace, wellness and workshop facilities and a restaurant and cafe at street level. There will also be a series of safety and comfort-related advantages, such as a manned reception and room service.
In the same area, C. F. Møller Architects will also be undertaking the redevelopment of a former warehouse, called Pakhus 4, for commercial use.
