European architects more critical about production and transport of (building) material

It is a well-known fact that energy reduction has become an important issue among European architects when it comes to selecting (building) materials. The same architects now indicate that they took this issue to the next level. Research published by Arch-Vision (www.arch-vision.eu) shows that European architects also have a more critical attitude towards material that costs a lot of energy during production and transport. This will therefore influence their selecting process increasingly.

Especially in France (81 per cent), Italy (73 per cent), Germany (71 per cent) and the Netherlands (70 per cent), architects agreed with the statement that they have a more critical attitude towards materials that cost a lot of energy during production and transport. In Spain (62%) and the UK (53%), they care a little less.

We are having a more critical look into materials that cost a lot of energy during transport and production (in %,n=1,200)

These and many other results are published in the European Architectural Barometer, an international research among 1200 European architects. Four times a year, this study is conducted by Arch-Vision in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. The research covers the developments of architectural turnovers and order volumes, and the expected development of orders at hand during the coming 12 months. Besides these conjuncture figures, a topic is highlighted each quarter.
